My name is Marion Vermazen. I am a traveler, hiker, reader, Sun alumnus, computer geek, YouTuber, Spanish and French language student, knitter, weaver and genealogist.
This morning we took the bus up into the mountains and hiked. The area where we hiked was almost too beautiful to believe. It prompted Duke to yodel! And I expected to see Heidi around every corner.
After our hike we took the bus up to the ski resort at the end of the road and had a coffee.
For dinner we took the bus into Vaduz and walked around a bit before we ate. Here is the castle where the Prince of Liechtenstein lives.
And here is our dinner.
This morning in Innsbruck we had a yummy breakfast of pastries and coffee at the strudel shop just down from our hotel.
Then we walked to the train station and caught a train to Feldkirch near the Austria Lichtenstein border. The train route took us through an idyllic picturesque countryside of green fields, villages and snow capped mountains.
In Feldkirch we changed to a bus to Valduz the capital of Lichtenstein. There we changed to a bus to our hotel. Lichtenstein is only 24 km long by 12 km wide With a population of about 37,000. This is the view from our hotel.
TripAdvisor only lists 19 restaurants in Vaduz. We ate a a very good restaurant next to our hotel.
Today we hiked! But first we went to the top of the mountains to the north of Innsbruck.
From the city center we took the cable railroad up the mountain to Hungerburg. It starts out as a subway then becomes a funicular. Each car swivels independently. As we were going up the bottom of our car was about even with the top of the car below us.
At Hingerburg a group of people were exercising. What a great setting for an exercise class!
In Hungerburg we changed to a Cable car and went up to Seegeube. And then from there took another cable car to the very top at 2,256 m / 7,400 ft. It felt like we were on top of the world.
It was a bit hazy so the pictures don’t really do it justice. In the winter you can ski from here all the way back down to Hungerburg.
We took the cable cars back down to Hungerburg and hiked from there through the forest back to Innsbruck. It was a perfect day for hiking.
To reward ourselves at the end of the day we enjoyed a couple of beers.
Innsbruck in western Austria is in a stunning setting. It is surround d by snow capped mountains. Today we walked to the train station in Salzburg.
Caught a train to Innsbruck and then walked to our hotel.
Our hotel, the Goldener Adler is just down the street from this building. It is called the Golden Roof but it was actually covered with gilt copper tiles by the Emperor Maximilian in 1500.
We explored the town a bit enjoying the great weather and had beer and pizza for dinner.
Where else but in Salzburg would the hotel TV have as one of the options on the main menu the movie The Sound of Music!
Our plan today was to do the Rick Steves walking tour of Salzburg. We started out at the Mozart Statue.
Outside the cathedral the angels on the facade seem to be crowning the statue of Mary in the courtyard.
The cathedral is beautiful and it has three organs!
From the cathedral we climbed up to the bluffs overlooking the town. It was a beautiful day with the sun shining.
We walked along the ridge top. The birds were singing and there was lots of green grass and wild flowers. The views were stunning.
We stopped for some fresh bread on the way back.
I think the highlight of dinner was my steak tartare. It was very good.
