Korotogo – Day 3

This morning we went back to Cafe Planet for breakfast. From there we drove to Sigatoa Sand Dunes National Park. They have a fascinating display about the history and ecology of the area. We did a great walk through the sand dunes and along the beach.

From Sigatoa Sand Dunes we drove to Tavuni Hill Fort. It’s a 19th century fortified village. Now it an archaeological site. Unfortunately it was closed today but the short drive up the Sigatoka River was very interesting.

Back at our villa we walked down to the Crab Shack for lunch. The food there is fantastic and you can’t ask for a nicer setting. And the waitress greeted us like old friends. We had the same cold fish soup that I had the day we arrived. It was so tasty. They serve it with cassava fries. Everything was memorable and so tasty!

After lunch we went wading in the tide pools across the road from our villa. We saw bright blue starfish, lots of little fish and a lot of sea slugs. The sea slugs look like snakes. We had been told that done of the animals in the tide pools are poisonous. When you touch a sea slug it shrinks almost like a spring. They look kind of scary and big but they are incredibly soft. They are really fascinating.

For dinner we went down to the Outrigger resort just down the coast from where we are staying. What a contrast. The Outrigger Resort was packed with people. Everyone was very nice but the noise and environment was like another dimension from where we are staying. After dinner we walked down the beach just a little bit back to our place. No one was around and I felt like we had Fiji to ourselves!
