Taupō to Pauanui

This morning before we left Hilltop Whakaipo Estate, Peter showed us around their farm. He raises sheep, deer, and cows for the meat. He also harvests his own hay for when the grass in the pastures isn’t enough.

As a kid Duke raised sheep, so he and Peter were able to compare how it was done in the 1960s in Iowa and how it is done in New Zealand now
Feeding the deer
This is their oldest male deer. He is 8.

About 10 am we packed up and headed north. We stopped a couple of times to stretch. About 2 we arrived in Pauanui on the Coromandel Peninsula.

One of our rest stops was near the area where Captain Cook first landed in 1769.
