Briginning our Road Trip – Three days – Reno to Big Bend National Park

We left early Sunday Morning, May 18 on our six week road trip through the U.S., Mexico and Guatemala. So far it has been three very long days of driving. But it is fun to be on the road again!

Sunday we drove from Reno to Kingman, Arizona, 550 miles. Driving the length of Nevada you see a lot of mountains and desert and not much else. When we got hungry we agreed that we would stop for lunch when we saw a tree. It took a while but here we are having our picnic lunch.

Our hotel in Las Cruces, The Encanta, had an  outdoor bar with an incongruous elegant ambiance. We had a drink and watched the sunset.

Tonight we are staying at a beautiful resort right on the Rio Grande. It was extremely hot when we arrived. Around 100. We ate dinner on a verada overlooking the mountains and watched thunderstorms come in. Then it started to rain and the temp dropped about 20 degrees. It was magical.

Tomorrow we explore Big Bend National Park and will spend the night in Laredo, Texas.

  1. Your hotel looks very grand and elegant. Like it was conjured up from the Alhambra. Glad to hear that you are making significant progress. Miss you here!
