Buenos Aires to Reno

On Tuesday our flight home wasn’t scheduled to leave Buenos Aires until 11:55 PM so we had one last whole day in Buenos Aires. And it was a perfect Spring day to enjoy.

Checkout from our hotel wasn’t until noon so we had plenty of time to have breakfast and pack. At noon we stored our bags and went for a walk to find a coffee shop where we could hang out and read.

I had lemonade and Duke had Coke Zero
We shared the lemonade. It had ginger in it and was really good.

Hotel Palermitano where we stayed was perfectly located. We were able to explore the SOHO part of the Palermo neighborhood and the Bebop club was right next door. In addition the staff were really friendly. The hotel had couches outside in front. We were able to sit there and read during the afternoon. Around five we found a restaurant and had a late lunch/early dinner. At about 8:00 we went to another great show at the Bebop and had rabas (fried calamari rings) and beer.

The big band music was wonderful
Calamari and beer.

We had to leave a bit before the end of the show. We got an Uber to the airport, flew 10 hours to Houston, then 4 hours to San Francisco, then an hour home to Reno.

One funny thing happened in San Francisco. When we pulled into the gate the rubber chock they use to keep the plane from rolling got caught under a tire. We had to wait about 15 minutes to disembark until they could get it unstuck!

It’s good to be home and sleeping in our own bed!!! Thanks everyone for following along.

Buenos Aires day 4

It finally feels like Spring has arrived in Argentina. Today we went for a long walk. First we went to the Eco park. Formerly it was the zoo.

Duke found a T-Rex

Next we went the Japanese garden.

On our way back to the hotel we stopped for a snack. Our total walk was about five miles.

We went to the 9:30 show at the Bebop club next door. The Victor Lavallen Orquesta Típica was performing. they were excellent. There were four bandoneóns in the front row. They played typical Argentine music.

Buenos Aires Day 3

Today was a lovely sunny day. We walked through Saturday markets down to Plaza Armenia where we sat for a bit. I don’t know whether it’s official or unofficial but I think it’s a dog park. There were lots of cute dogs who were let off leash when they arrived at the park.

For dinner we went to a highly rated gourmet sushi restaurant, The Lift. It’s only a couple of blocks from our hotel. After our platter was delivered one of owners described each of our fabulous sushi’s for us.

I forgot to take a picture until we had already eaten half our sushi

The show we went to at the Bebop club tonight was a band called Nube 9. They performed all the songs from the Beatles album Abbey Road. The club was packed. The other two shows we have gone to at Bebop had good size audiences but this Saturday night show appeared to be sold out. The band was really good. The audience was people of all ages and there were a lot of really avid fans who knew the words to every song. We had a great time.

Buenos Aires Day 2

Today was mostly rainy. We had a lovely relaxing day.

Duke always likes to get a haircut when we are travelling. It allows him to chat with locals. And it is usually cheaper than at home. So this morning he found a nearby a nearby barber and had his haircut.

And his hair after his haircut. He is browsing outside a store that sells mate paraphernalia.

This afternoon we went for a walk in the rain to see some of the Palermo neighborhood that we are staying in.

We stopped for coffee while we were out

Tonight we had a great dinner at Doña, Bocas de Fuego

Our beef platter to share.

Then we went to a jazz concert at the Thelonius club.

Tandi to Buenos Aires

Today we drove five hours to Buenos Aires. After 5 weeks and 5,220 miles we turned in our rental car and completed our Argentine road trip.

We will be in Buenos Aires four nights. We are staying in the Palermo neighborhood at a hotel called Palermitano. Duke has booked jazz concerts for us each night. Tonight we went to 2 concerts at the Bebop Club right next door to our hotel. They were each great!

The two groups we saw
The Earth Wind and Fire tribute band. The music and energy were great!
