Today we explored Kaunas. We walked about a mile west towards Kaunas castle which is right at the confluence of the Niemen and Neris Rivers. Along the way we stopped to check out interesting stuff. Many of the main streets in Kaunas are pedestrian only. That makes walking so nice.

Most of Kaunas Castle has been destroyed and washed away by the river over the years. We were able to climb up to a lookout at the top of what’s left of the wall. The town festival was going on outside the castle. Inside on the grass were a series of signs celebrating NATO.

On our way back from the castle we stopped for coffee.

Later after we got back to the area around our hotel we had beers and spent an hour people watching.

For dinner we went to Uoksas, a Michelin restaurant quite near our hotel. We preordered the three course tasting menu and had the wine pairings to go with it.

In the photo from above the old castle, are those solar panels around the flag or an art installation? Your dinner looked perfect.

the panels in the center were all about NATO. As you can imagine NATO is very important to them. If Putin wins in Ukraine it’s likely these countries would be next.

Kaunas looks like a very historic stop with a great variation in sights. Love that you have desserts with your meals! How are the average prices for Michelin meals ( in dollars)? Enjoy!

Pam I keep forgetting to confirm with Duke what the Michelin dinner cost. The three course dinner with wine pairing was about $150 for the two of us. That’s expensive for here. But in general not too bad.
The meal was good and creative but I don’t know if I would call it great. It was fun though.😊
